Hidden

Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against You.
— Psalm 119:11 NKJV

From time to time throughout the years, we’ve explored Biblical truths regarding the power of the “Word” and the application of God’s “Holy Truth” in the everyday world within which we live. As we join hands in service with our partners, and with the afflicted and persecuted whom we serve, we are constantly reminded that any spiritual weapons the enemy may create – and with which he may try to intimidate – pale embarrassingly when held up to God’s light.

When we consider hiding His Word in our hearts, there is a countermeasure required by our actions that knowingly draws on His power while retaining the effectiveness of the Word (“…that I might not sin against You”).

Satan has no power nor creativity of his own. Anything that he mimics or wields has originated with God. Not unlike his antics in the Garden of Eden, anything Satan conjures up to draw us away from our Heavenly Father has first been taken from God, then distorted or refashioned before being handed back to us ‘180 degrees out of phase’ and presented deceitfully as a lie.

I believe that the enemy often steals aspects of the best of what God has intended for us in his attempts to sell us a version of the truth that ultimately unbalances our equilibrium as we navigate otherwise smooth waters. Those who are persecuted are perhaps more vulnerable, though God’s sovereignty remains sure.

Now Jesus, in His transformation to “flesh” (human form), revealed all the spiritual provisions hidden within Him for our sakes. His capacity to become wholly Man, arising through His incarnation and birth, was the physical “bookend”; initially hidden, but then gloriously revealed for humankind’s revelation. As a result, we can now consider the immeasurably compassionate, eternal provisions that God has expressed – with all the authority of heaven – through His hidden Word in Jesus.

Our hearts leap with gratitude and thankfulness, particularly during this time of Thanksgiving. May we all truly consider how to bless God by tending to the wounds of His children who suffer daily from the pain of affliction and abuse for simply and faithfully following their Lord Jesus Christ.
